Who said that everything important to know in life, they learned in kindergarten?
Well, it probably does start around the time of kindergarten.
“Is her snack today bigger and better than my snack?”
“Does his tricycle come with an important-sounding bell like mine?”
“Why does she get to be the Line Leader, again?”
In our very brief travels within Africa, we are constantly peppered with inquiries not unlike these:
“Are the roads better here in Lilongwe, or in Mwanza?”
“What do you think of Tanzania (snicker, snicker) now that you have been to Kenya?”
“In the USA/Canada do you also have problems with bandits?”
We know some of this is genuine curiosity--the people who ask them have not traveled much outside of their hometown, let alone outside of the country. And most of them will never have the chance to travel as we do, for leisure and learning and the adventure of it all.
We’re just never sure how exactly to answer them.
