Adjustment Round 2

Our friend Liz says that adjusting back to Mwanza after a visit back home always takes some time. She can say that again.
When we first set foot in Mwanza together last July, a lot of our adjustment energy was spent on learning to manage a household in a country with poor infrastructure, on being the centre of attention everywhere we went and attempting our first conversations in Swahili.
This time round, especially after the whirlwind of activities with friends and families over the holidays, it seems that a lot of the adjusting involves dealing with feelings of loneliness and isolation. Skype and phone and email are fantastic, and while we definitely appreciate the technology, we also feel the strain that time and long distances impose on all our relationships.

Added to this is the fact that many members of our small group are currently away from Mwanza, some for good, some for a few weeks, and some for a few months. We miss them, just as we miss all our dear friends and family--in all the places where you are.
