We arrived in Dar es Salaam on Saturday afternoon. Dar es Salaam means "Haven of Peace", but unfortunately for me, the first three days were anything but peaceful. Worst abdominal pain of my life! (Well, at least since Shanghai 2002 when friends rushed me to not one but two hospitals in the middle of the night. It was all fine after a few days...)
Praise God that I was in the good care of 4 wonderful doctors, and that we're all now able to enjoy this breezy seaside retreat until Thursday as the doctors get their orientation to HIV/AIDS work in Tanzania. And much thanks to all the friends and family members who are earnestly praying for us.
Even though we know there are people working in much, much harder places both here in Tanzania and elsewhere in Africa--being here even for just one month can really make us long for God's kingdom to come--the sooner the better!
What a song we'll sing upon that day: when no food eaten will make you sick, no lake or stream will be too dirty to swim in or drink from, and no one will ever, ever have to watch a loved one die. No more hunger or crying, or sickness or mourning or pain, for the old order of things will have passed away.
