Apparently, around 3:30 on Sunday morning, a transformer exploded somewhere in Mwanza and electricity was down throughout the city for the day and then some. On our shopping list for today: canned food, batteries, matches and candles!
Even though parts of the blackout were no fun at all, (and electricity has gone off and on a few times since then) we had a lovely time getting to know some of the expat doctors and their families--and even went to a Labor Day Weekend Party thrown by Jennifer and David who pulled it ALL OFF without electricity or water!

Thanks to our amazing hosts, we had hamburgers and hotdogs on real buns and home-baked cookies! (small things make us really happy these days...)
