Update on “Grandma YC Comes Around” from June 4th and "Denial, Fear or Hopelessness?" from May 27th.
After being in the hospital for over 2 months, Baby YC was well enough to leave the hospital last Friday. It was a celebration for the medical team and the fruit of Grandma’s relentless work in making sure her grandchild was given the HIV medications and formula therapy everyday.
There was a period early on, when I had little hope YC would make it out of the hospital alive. As a 15 month old, she came into the hospital weighing a meager 13lbs. Her weight continued to drop to as low as 10lbs, because Grandma YC didn’t believe her granddaughter had HIV and therefore didn’t feel the need to enroll her to start HIV medications.
It was at this critical period, when it looked like YC would have trouble even surviving another day, that Grandma YC accepted the fact that her granddaughter was infected, and needed to start on HIV medications.
On Friday, when told her granddaughter was well enough to leave the hospital, Grandma YC repeatedly shouted to us in Swahilli “Praise God for the healing of my granddaughter and for you medical doctors here. It’s a miracle she is alive and well. Praise God”.

I am praising God with Grandma YC for YC!!
