We made it to Mwanza last Wednesday afternoon--another smooth journey with all bags intact!
The last few days have been filled with meeting new people, learning many Swahili greetings, getting settled into our house, getting to know the neighbors (including dozens of geckos and chickens and cows and a hyper-color lizards sunning themselves in the yard) and figuring out where to eat and how to get groceries.
I'm not sure how much of this we could have accomplished without the help of some very helpful new friends--especially Emmanuel, one of the hospital taxi drivers who has taken it upon himself to teach us everything useful to know about Mwanza. He's been our guide, cultural interpreter and Swahili teacher all in one.
Today, was Duncan's first semi-official day of work--though it looks like most of this week will be about getting oriented and more settled into our life here.
On Sunday, we'll fly to Arusha for 3 weeks of language training.
Thanks again to everyone for your prayers and support. We hope to be able to update more regularly now that we are slowly getting used to life here.
