Coaxing thankfulness from us in our frazzled "oh-my-gosh-we-forgot-to-buy-DEET!" state feels a little...counter-intuitive. There's no room left on the to-do list!
But when tried to do what the Word says to do, when we sat still long enough to begin recalling just all the good we have experienced--well, then we see why this pairing of thanks + prayer goes so well. Giving thanks helps take the edge off of our moving-to-Africa angst.
We're so thankful to have had the opportunity to spend 3 years in New York. We're thankful that despite some mid-flight turbulence, D survived residency. We're thankful that our families are supportive of our travels, even though they'd much rather we didn't go...
And we're thankful that we found Houston's "first Certified Green Restaurant", and that it was excellent! French Onion Soup for D and fish tacos for me!
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hears and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phil 4: 6
Here's another 'be thankful' verse which I heard during a baptism at All Soul's in London last Sunday:
ReplyDeleteSo then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and OVERFLOWING WITH THANKFULNESS. Col 2: 6,7 -Pbp
